Clay is killed off too, when Zoe suffocates him with his e-cigarette. Zoe then kills Niko by at first asking him to help her and then when he refuses, crushes him in a cupboard. Frank is disbelieving but then disturbed as he realizes that this was the same dream that Zoe would have as a kid and has tormented her since. She awakens terrifies and tells Frank, Clay and Niko about it. She sees a small girl standing at one end of this corridor. When Eva visits a resting Zoe, Eva is suddenly transported into a corridor in flames, where people are trapped inside an apartment door. Frank tries to comfort her and say that she would obviously be traumatized after her experience. Zoe initially tells Frank that something is wrong with her and that something is happening to her which she cannot explain. She can read their minds, move things around at will and her skin begins to change in color and texture. They bring her back to life but soon, it is apparent that this is not the same Zoe. This includes all their research, equipment and of course, the serum. Soon after that, a pharma company learns about this and buys out the rights to their discovery. Frank and Zoe are disappointed but have no choice. The dean of the university where they are doing these experiments learns about the different angle that their tests have taken them – from keeping patients from becoming brain dead to resurrecting the deceased – and angrily cancels the program along with their funding. For one, the serum has not dispersed as they expected but is still in his brain and that the dog could be a danger to humans. The dog is placed in an MRI machine and they see that his brain displays a lot of abnormal activity. This is when they begin to get concerned about what it is that they have stumbled upon. He attacks Clay one night in the lab and when at home with Zoe, walks into her room, climbs up on the bed with her and watches her while she sleeps. Although the dog acts strangely thereafter. Frank and his friends successfully test the serum that they’ve concocted on a dog and are successful, with their friend Eva (Bolger) filming everything. They hypothesis that when a person dies, the brain releases this substance which gives people a visual effect also described by survivors as a ‘near death experience’. The process is elaborate and involves a part of the brain called the amygdala and a chemical called DMT, which is the most hardcore psychedelic drug known to man and which occurs in the brain, according to what is stated by the scientists. A group of medical scientists take us through the process that they say, will help doctors keep patients who have either died on the operating table or are DOA, alive for a while longer. PLOT SUMMARY The film opens with an experiment being performed on an animal.
